•• About Professor Ursula James ••

Professor Ursula James is the only Professor of Clinical hypnosis in the UK.

She is also a Visiting Teaching Fellow at Oxford University Medical School in recognition of her years of teaching of medical students there, and a Patron of two charities, Anxiety UK and the National Centre for Domestic Violence.

Author of four books, the Clinical Hypnosis Textbook; You Can Be Amazing - Transform your life with hypnosis; You can think yourself Thin and The Source - A Manual of Everyday Magic which is now in translation in 9 languages. In 2007 she had her own TV series Sex, Lies and Hypnosis in which she worked with couples in crisis.

Since 2000 she has been teaching clinical hypnosis to medical students at many UK Universities including Oxford and Cambridge. Her Visiting Professorship is at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen where she has been instrumental in creating the MSc in Professional Studies (Clinical Hypnosis) open for all hypnotherapists who wish to have professional validation for their skills. She feels this development is essential in driving the profession forward both in terms of developing research but also in acceptance within the NHS.

As well as writing and teaching she is actively involved in research into the use of Mind Body Interventions (MBIs) in medical practice, specifically clinical hypnosis and mindfulness based techniques.

Her interest in meditation and mindfulness techniques began as a personal one when she first visited an ashram in Kerala. She is now a regular visitor to India, continuing her practice and studies in meditation and mindfulness based stress management techniques (MBST) for both personal and professional use. Ursula stresses the importance of being a practitioner of the techniques which she uses in therapy and teaching - because "after all, who would want to take advice from a stressed therapist?"

Ursula has clinics in Belgravia, London, and in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, India. She specialises in stress and anxiety based conditions, as well as working with Obsessive Compulsive Disorders and habit breaking. These treatments range from one to three sessions. In her spare time writes novels about women who get away with murder. Under a pseudonym, of course!
